Phase 1: The Foundation

3. Hot Wire Action For smooth, sweeping curves or jagged cliffs, a Hobby Knife or Hot Wire Cutter is a game-changer. It glides through XPS foam like butter, allowing for organic shapes that a standard knife just can’t replicate.
Phase 2: The Detail Work
4. Build the Terrain Once your "bulk" is ready, start layering in the architecture. This is where you add stairs, doorways, and platform levels. Remember: verticality makes a diorama look epic!
5. Score the Bricks (The "Texture" Step) This is where the magic happens. Using a hobby knife or even a ballpoint pen, "score" your brick patterns directly into the foam. Because XPS is high-density, it won't tear—it will hold every single line.

Phase 3: Paint & Atmosphere

9. Final Assembly Place your terrain, add some static grass or "mud brown" texture paste to the base, and check your lighting.
